Volcom tour at SeaSk8

The Volcom team rolled through the local skatepark for some demo times. It was pretty fun. Caswell Berry killed it and made it look so fun. I was eyeing Remy Strattons style cruising through the transition area. Suski was putting in work for sure and did some killer airs over the hips. Rune Glifburg did a huge backside ollie tailgrab on the extension, shook his head then followed it up with an even bigger backside ollie. Grant Taylor showed some of that speed and huge air i have seen in the videos. Appleyard seemed to not totally jive with the park but managed to look effortless the whole time. Pfanner, Dollin, and Rowley kinda lurked around and chilled with the kids. The star of the hour though was Lil’ Louie Lopez. He definitely stoked the kids out and was really showing what the future of skateboarding will look like. It was good times and I even managed to score a new tshirt.

Bruk! Bruk!

Listening to the goods. Dancehall is the most futuristic of musics. It’s amazing the effect it has had on the pop music globally. Everything from rap/hip hop, house, techno, all the way to radio pop hits feels it’s touch.

Inland……

School is out for the summer and that means an increase in my skating. It’s funny but now, as a 38 y.o. man I am looking forward to summer for the same reason as my kid. Last week we took a trip into the Green River valley to hit up the southern suburbs skateparks and eat some tasty mexican food. We first hit up Auburn’s Brannan park. This is an old favorite of mine with snake run that winds into a middlin sized bowl all with no coping or lip really. So fun to roll in and out of it. There is also a small capsule that shares a rollover spine with the snakerun and bowl with one side of coping and a small janky extension. For this mission Fuzzy invited his buddy Nick a/k/a McCheese and my buddy Nhon making this a perfect posse to roll with. Nhon brings up the stoke factor for me and Des gets pretty hyped hanging with Nick. Check the flicks-

After about an hour here the tropps were hungry and a bit sun shocked, Hell it’s the first day we hit 75 all year. So we decided to get a bite and chill for minute before we hit the next site of our southern excursion. We hit up Taqueria Rinconcita, a small chain on the south end that does it so right. It’s one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and I always make a point of hitting it up when I am in the area. After we all had a very pleasing lunch we decided to hit up Lil’ Kent a/k/a Kent 1. The first time I skated here was probably the summer of 97 with Nhon so this session was a reunion of sorts. Any way it took everybody a moment to get used to the old Jonny’s style transition. You see Kent has tons of banks and one of the most popular was Jonny’s bank. It’s behind a grocery store and is one of those spots that is so crap but the kids who grew up skating there love it. Super tight , short banks are like candy for a Kent skater. Shit will go down. Not here, not me though. I took pictures…….

It was too Hot, The lil dudes took off the shirts and after another hour or so we decided it was time to head back. It was a good way to start the summer.

Go skateboarding Day, or whenever actually. Or Don’t.

Today was Go Skateboarding Day, something i am sure is intended to be a show of the political power in the numbers of skaters or whatevs but ends up being a marketing opportunity for energy drinks, action sports watch companies, prepaid cellphones, and Shoe companies. I did not see too many actual skate companies represented at the spot today except for the local upancomers trying to get a bit direct marketing action, which they should. I have noticed that more and more any events i go to that are put together at SeaSkate are just opportunities to give my kid a pop. Don’t even get me started on the weird concept of Skateboard organizations. Does skating actually need an evangelism wing. Isn’t the whole point that you are doing it strictly for your own enjoyment otherwise why don’t you go take tennis lessons. And fuck you for telling my kid he needs to try harder doing a trick I know you can’t do. First rule is never ask somebody who is not your homie to do a trick you personally won’t try. Shit here are some flix……….

Lets Crank Some Munch

Saw this amazing video on GEF’s blog. Not much has changed about being a skateboarder.

This is a documentary on the Dogtown Skater Lifestyle from the 70′s. TA rules and Stacey Peralta pretty much cements his reputation into the annals of Kookdom with a very strange safety equipment demo. There is some pretty fresh pool skating and a party that just oozes Teen sex and seventies madness. Must see for any old fogies.

I plan on taking some more black and white photos. I like the textures.

These are some shots I took at the Flexions, Liars show
